End of a Decade—Bringing on 2020!

Earlier this month, I attended a workshop where the leader reminded us that we will soon be closing out a decade and entering a whole new time period. He asked us to share some of the biggest things that stood out from the last 10 years, and then encouraged us to take some intentional time alone to really be able to reflect.

If you are anything like me, when you are amidst busy or hard or any other seasons, it can be tough to see or remember the other moments that have occurred over the year.

Yes, we as humans can tend to overthink the past or jump ahead in the future, but we also get bogged down right in the middle.

It was eye opening to think that 10 years ago, I was one semester into my graduate program and on the path to becoming a counselor. It was also eye opening to remember all the ebbs and flows that occurred during the past 10 years.

I would encourage you, as we are winding down 2019 and beginning to step into 2020, to spend some time asking yourself some questions. These questions are meant to guide your reflection:

  • What were you doing 10 years ago?
  • What were you like then?
  • What have been some high moments?
  • What have been some low moments?
  • What moments have changed your life?
  • How do you feel about where you are now?
  • How do you feel about yourself now?
