Minimizing Prevents Healing

I’ve been hearing variations of the same message everywhere I go lately; “I can’t complain about my challenges because others have it worse.” This mindset prevents us from fully acknowledging our pain. This mindset prevents us from living a joy filled life. This mindset prevents us from doing the work we need to in order to get on the other side of it.

This mindset prevents healing.

Yes, the reality is that someone out there does have it worse than us. Just here in the United States, 552,830 people don’t have a place to call home and over 40 million people don’t know where their next meal will come from.  However, this doesn’t mean you aren’t experiencing pain as well.

You see, when we minimize or avoid our emotions, they don’t just go away. They are still there, slowly building up, and soon will explode when they have nowhere else to go.

Below are some tips to prevent this explosion from happening and giving yourself what you deserve…healing.

  1. Seek a professional counselor.
  2. Identify a support system.
  3. Keep a journal.
  4. Listen to your body’s physiological response to stress and other emotions.
  5. Write 5 affirmations daily; I am deserving of happiness, I am worthy of love, etc.
  6. Implement self-care into your daily routine; baths, running, reading, or crafting.

Always remember that just because someone out there has it worse than you and may face challenges that you couldn’t fathom experiencing, it doesn’t mean your life and happiness aren’t valuable. You deserve healing.
