Julia Akins is a therapist that is focused on equipping her clients to become curious about their experiences. This process provides space for unpacking their stories to be able to provide healing and healthy lives for their future. Julia believes that each person’s story is important and deserves the space to be heard.
Julia’s work with her clients is rooted in a person-centered approach with a trauma-informed lens. She customizes her work with each client by using: Existential-Humanistic Therapy, Experiential therapy, Emotion-focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Somatic experiencing, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Psychodynamic theory.
Clients describe Julia as having a settled and safe presence while providing room for humor and playfulness along the way. She specializes in healing family wounds, grief and loss, recovering from childhood trauma, substance abuse, and life transitions.
Julia is working towards her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a focus in Trauma Counseling at Richmont Graduate University. Before her Master’s degree, Julia obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Columbia International University.
Julia is currently under the supervision of Adam Glendye, LPC, CPCS.
