Lara graduated summa cum laude with her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University. Lara originates from South Africa, and spent several years living and working in London, England prior to emigrating to the United States in 2015 with her husband and two children.

Her focus is primarily on women and parenting but she welcomes clients representing all ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, races, and cultural backgrounds.

Women Major life transitions, aging, marriage/relationships/divorce, motherhood, anxiety, stress, high achievers and industry leaders, career downshifting and vocational changes, self-esteem, body shame, perfectionism.

Parenting Lara works to equip and support parents in navigating parenting young children and adolescents. She works on parent-child, parent-parent, co-parent, and single parent and family relationships and interactions. Lara is certified in evidenced-based parent training programs (Positive Discipline Education) and is pursuing further certification in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE).

Lara is also a proponent of Intuitive Eating for all clients as a foundational component of holistic mental health and wellbeing. Lara works from an Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size (HAES) framework to help individuals and parents of children and teens navigating restrictive dieting, disordered eating, and rigid food rules to create healthier and happier relationships with food to support the mind and body.

In addition to these core areas of focus, Lara is also trained and experienced in guiding clients through depression, anxiety, stress, major life transitions, self-esteem challenges, perfectionism, and trauma and loss.  She is passionate about working alongside her clients as they make sense of their life changes and challenges.

Lara uses an integrative approach to therapy, incorporating several modalities into her work with clients, including psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. Lara also has advanced training in evidenced-based parent programs, and Intuitive eating counseling; and she is a Certified Trauma Professional.

Lara enjoys spending time at home and outdoors with her husband, two children, and their chocolate Labrador Retriever.
