The Looking Glass: Reflecting a Healthy Self-Image

Mirrors.  They are everywhere, even the news. Perhaps you saw the bride-to-be who banned mirrors leading up to her wedding day (even on her wedding day) because of the angst she felt.

Like the distorted images in a fun house mirror where our bodies seem contorted and strangely shaped, many women view their own images in such a distorted way. The sequel to Alice in Wonderland contains a looking glass where things were not always what they appeared to be.  Many women view themselves with harsh self-criticism when they look in the mirror.  Or, the story of Snow White, caught up in the awful comparison trap of beauty amongst women. Women often struggle with comparing themselves and looking desperately in the mirror for affirmation.  I would suggest compassion as an alternative.
